METRO PARKS CRUCIAL TO BIKE PATHS' SUCCESS

EDITORIAL & COMMENT 06A

I was happy to read the June 17 Dispatch article on the expanded bike-trail network in and around Columbus and its suburbs.

Thanks to a lot of outstanding partners, each year we continue to enhance what is already one of the best recreational opportunities for central Ohio families. A key player not given as much credit as it deserves in the article is the Metro Parks.

Under the leadership of John O'Meara, Metro Parks has brought its resources and talents to the bikeway effort in a big way and is now the second-largest local funder behind Columbus. Metro Parks is the lead agency on two sections: the 14-mile Blacklick Creek trail, connecting Three Creeks Park to Blacklick Woods, and the stage connecting Three Creeks to the central Columbus area via Livingston Avenue.

While the article correctly noted that there's more work to be done, together we're making a real difference. I encourage area residents to see for themselves this summer.
