How to Become a Trail Sentinel

Have you been on the Ohio to Erie Trail from London to South Charleston? Do you enjoy bicycling, rollerblading and hiking?  If so, you can perform these activities while serving your local community!  The Madison County Park District and Friends of the Madison County Parks and Trails are looking for volunteers to join our Trail Sentinel Patrol program.

This program, founded two years ago, is an opportunity for volunteers to assist our County Sheriff by reporting problems and providing information for our hike-bike trail users throughout Madison County and beyond.  Volunteers need to be age 18 and older.   They must set a good example at all times as representatives of the Madison County Park District, City of London, and Friends of the Madison County Parks and Trails.  Having access to the internet and personal cell phone are recommended.

The Friends of Madison County Parks and Trails will provide the following training required to prepare new volunteers for the Trail Sentinel Program:  (1) First Aid and CPR, (2) basic bike patrol/public relations training, and (3) basic bicycle repair.  The tentative schedule is First Aid and CPR will be held on Saturday, March 15th, from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.   Bike Patrol and Bike Repair will be held on Saturday, March 22nd, from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon.  Upon completion, volunteers will receive a vest, helmet cover, and a patrol kit.

Applications to become a Trail Sentinel are being accepted now.  Please visit FMCPT.com or call Julia Cumming at 740-852-4004 to obtain an application.
