The
Friends of
Madison County Parks
and Trails is a non-profit 501c3 organization staffed by volunteers who
are dedicated to supporting the Madison County Park District and the
City of London. One of our goals is to complete the critical link
of
the Ohio
to Erie Trail through
Madison County as it goes from the Ohio
River to Lake Erie. We have a regular monthly meeting on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm at the Madison County Senior Center - 280 West High Street in London. (Click here for a map.) Some of the ways that our volunteers have helped to prepare the trail for construction include disposing of rubbish, clearing and burning brush along the proposed trail corridor, and working with local authorities to help plan and coordinate construction logistics. The work that we have accomplished has reduced the cost of construction, resulting in more miles of paved trail. ![]() We also staff information booths at various local events, to keep the community informed of the benefits of the trail. Our organization has helped to make London a bicycle-friendly community. For the past three years, the City of London has been the host for the MS150 Bikin' to the Beast Tour, and has also been a destination for XOBA - The Across Ohio Bicycle Adventure. In 2002, London also hosted an overnight stay for 3000 cyclists during GOBA - The Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure. GOBA is returning to London again in 2006! We enjoy strong backing from our community leaders, including the Madison County Park District, the City of London, and the London Parks and Recreation Department. We are participating members of the Downtown London association of of business merchants, and the Madison County Chamber of Commerce. Upon completion of trail construction and paving, our organization will remain active in the community to promote recreational activities along the trail, and will continue to work with local authorities to monitor proper maintenance of the trail. Programs that we have helped to develop to date include the Trail Sentinel Program, along with the Adopt-a-Trail Program. |
